[ there might be faint nuzzling of hyunki's neck but adder would claim the moving around made it happen. he still needed to gain confidence in being able to touch and the very same with being touched. the fear of being pushed aside or worse lingered and probably would for awhile still.

but instead, he pulled them forward and after they made it through the portal they stepped into what literally looked like a jungle mixed with a rain forest. it even had a waterfall and a cave tucked behind it. ]
[ Hyunki, for himself, loved the touching. The fact that Adder had gone from being very confused any time Hyunki reached out to now initiating hugs meant the world to him. It meant trust, in a sense. It meant familiarity. It meant - intimacy. Which Hyunki craved, like a parched man in the desert.
He didn't try to argue with Adder regarding who was the fairest of the two of them, even if his opinion was quite set, and instead followed him to the portal, his body buzzing with his eagerness, the smile on his face absolutely impossible to wipe off.
It did feel cold, but Hyunki barely felt it; he was not one to be very bothered by temperature changes. He paid even less attention to it when they stepped to the other side and his mouth fell open at the sight. He turned to look at Adder, before taking a few steps forward, unable to resist the call, placing a hand on the closest tree's trunk, bowing his head in a solemn greeting.
A moment later, with his eyes a little wet, Hyunki looked back at Adder, completely awed. ]
If this is your secret lair, I imagine the rest of the Underworld looks different? And did you - did you do this? Are you the one to keep them all alive?
[ a rare kind of eagerness settled over adder, watching with focused attention while hyunki explored and took in the trees. he knew he would enjoy the trees most of all with his connection to them. something adder wanted to share in on because he never really indulged much in the living aspects of the world around him.
hyunki kind of opened up a new perspective for him. ]
The rest of the Underworld does look different, mostly dependent on what area you visit and your intentions while there.
[ his head lightly shook but the smile remained on his face. ]
No. I had some assistance with the deity of summer and the lord of the harvest. But the Underworld keeps it alive with its energy. It keeps everyone in a state of living down here, just in ways different from topside.
[ his hand gestured out around them. ] Anything really catch your eye?
[ With one hand still on the tree, Hyunki reached out with his other hand, for Adder to join him. If he did, he should be able to feel the tree's energy, channeled through Hyunki. ]
Will you show me, one day? The rest of it?
[ Not that he wouldn't very happily stay here for days. Weeks, months, years. There was - so much, here, it was incredible, and it was so incredibly alive, too, buzzing right under his skin. He was pretty sure he looked a little greener under the skin than usual, right here, surrounded by so much of it.
He took a deep breath, looking at Adder. ] It feels a little like home. Are these trees connected to those topside?
[ He didn't want to ask them directly, in case they were. At the question, he looked directly at Adder. ]
You. And the waterfall. I want to go swim in it. And I want to talk to the trees, but I don't want you to get bored, watching me just drone on with them. It can go on for a while.
[ taking hyunk's hand when prompted, he gasped a little by the sudden spike in energy and the surge it sent around inside of him. it sort of made his mind wander on how it might be if they connected together amongst the trees.
he really needed to keep his mind from spiraling out. ]
I would love to show you one day. I can show you my chambers. [ another place no one ever saw because of how much it meant to him. ]
No. These are not connected. Everything in the underworld is separated from the topside, minus me. I'm the link between the two. [ a hint at how much weight he carried.
a soft smile took over his face and he gave a pleased nod. ] The waterfall and you sound perfect.
I wouldn't get bored if you want to talk to the trees. I like your voice a lot.
[ At the words, Hyunki felt his cheeks heat up. His chambers? Didn't that mean - Hyunki had read enough books and watched enough movies to think of what this could mean, but he also couldn't presume. Not with Adder.
With the blush on his cheeks and a smile on his lips, he nodded. ] I'd like that.
[ To see his chambers, and maybe more. He'd like that. More and more, with every moment he spent with Adder, he wanted it more.
And he wanted to tell him, and these trees, about his story. They were not connected, they could not relay anything topside, and get him into trouble. He was safe to talk, here.
But first, he wanted to see the waterfall from up close. Taking his hand off of the tree, after yet another little bow of his head, he just held on to Adder and walked over to the waterfall, looking like he belonged, right here in the middle of the forest. ]
I can talk to them later. Waterfall first. I haven't bathed in a natural body of water in so long...
[ realizing how the words sounded belatedly, adder joined in on the blushing, rubbing at his cheek as he tried to not make it worse by explaining or blurting out how he did want the context of the words to be true. wouldn't it be too forward? maybe? he did not have any experience with personal relationships, least of all romantic entanglements.
letting hyunki lead him over to the waterfall, he took in the scenery around it for a moment but his eyes kept pulling over beside him. how could one being have so much beauty? ]
Well, then, let's get you into the water. [ adder commented, the eagerness returning really quickly. ] You go ahead, it'll take me a few seconds to get this belt off I have on. [ it had various clasps to give it the skull like appearance. frowning to himself, he held onto the hem of his shirt, slowly pulling it up and off with a blush staining his cheeks. ]
[ If Hyunki noticed the blush on Adder's cheeks, he didn't make a mention of it. He didn't want Adder to feel like he had to be embarrassed, when he'd be the first one to even think of it, after all.
But they were both very new to this. They both seemed to have no idea how to navigate these kind of relationships, and Hyunki was all too happy to learn with Adder by his side. If that was what Adder wanted, too.
But now, they were at the waterfall, and Hyunki had to stop for a second just to take it all in, amazed at the sheer beauty of it all, how glorious ans luxurious the vegetation around them was. The waterfall was singing gently over the rocks it was cascading on, and Hyunki took a deep breath before starting to divest himself of his clothes, sparing a glance towards Adder and spending a second just looking at the expanse of pale skin he'd revealed.
For some reason, the sight made Hyunki's stomach swoop with - something, he was not too sure what. But it sure did do that. Hyunki looked away, blushing harder than before, as he finished undressing without thought, testing the water with one foot before jumping in, stark naked and laughing when he emerged again. ] The temperature's perfect!
[ watching hyunki experience life around them had become a habit for adder and it bloomed something deep within his chest, taking root there and growing more and more. while he did not have a name for it, he knew he wanted it to continue. he knew he wanted to learn everything he could about hyunki and have the same in return.
opening up might be a challenge but hyunki made him feel safe, something he had never experienced outside of the underworld.
glancing over at him, adder's own blush deepened. damn. the whole beauty thing really wanted to make sure he never breathed easily again. double damn.
the infectious energy hyunki tended to give off caught adder up in it and he finished stripping the rest of his clothing off, slipping a little easier into the water. ]
It is perfect. [ he whispered, not really talking about the water as he drifted closer to hyunki. ]
I don't think you have any idea how beautiful you really are, Hyunki. Thank you for being - [ he waved his hand off. ] - Here with me.
[ Hyunki very purposefully did not look as Adder finished getting undressed and joined him in the water. Not that he didn't want to look, because he did, very much so, but he did not want Adder to feel uncomfortable, in case it was something he struggled with.
Hyunki had grown in a society that cared very little for decorum, and nudity was not something anyone blinked an eyelid at. Men and women bathed together all the time without it being sexual. But since he'd joined the human world, he had to learn very different rules, and he was not sure what set Adder was closer to following.
And yet Hyunki is the one to blush again, when Adder joins him in the water and compliments him. He ducks his head into the water, trying to hide his embarrassment, but come back up quickly, realizing that the water is very, very clear, and Adder is very, very naked. ]
I've never been called beautiful, before. And thank you. For showing me. I want to see - everything there is to see? And seeing this is a privilege.
[ compared to everyone else around him, adder never thought of himself as attractive. then again, he never really considered himself at all. putting everything on the back burner in service of his position and keeping everyone else happy and in most cases in line. what else could there be?
hyunki made him consider other things and he wondered now about his own attractiveness and if he should shift his appearance around. would hyunki like him more then? ]
You are and - not just in looks. [ the words were a very soft confession as he drifted a little closer, reaching out like he might wrap his arms around hyunki's neck but he flicked water at him instead. nice and playful.
he might have giggled afterwards but he'd never admit to it. ]
I want to see everything with you. Hear everything you have to say.
[ this time he did really wrap his arms around hyunki. ]
[ Hyunki had never really thought of his own own attractiveness either, before. Being the last child in a large family, he had been the one that was often forgotten, left to the Trees for education, and Trees cared very little for these kinds of things.
Which was a train of thought that was completely stopped when Adder flicked water at him, making him sputter and laugh, pushing his hair off of his face with one hand as he gave Adder a look of fake outrage, which melted away very quickly as Adder came closer. ]
You are, too. Beautiful. I don't think that you've heard that said to you very often either, huh? And you are someone. Not just with me. All the time. Adder, you are not just what you do. You're so much more than that.
[ Hyunki would repeat the words as often as it took for Adder to believe him. Over and over, if it was what Adder needed.
For two beings that came from such completely different backgrounds, they had much in common, still. And as Adder came close, Hyunki stopped even trying to resist, and drew closer himself, wrapping his arms around Adder's neck as well, and his legs around Adder's hips, bringing them much, much closer, all of a sudden.
His voice was a lot softer when he spoke again. ] Do you want to know why I left home?
[ the words were a warm flush against his skin, a turning point towards something else. a warmth in ways he never experienced before and had little to do with the surge of shadows within him or the fire in his veins. the fire which kept dimming for some reason but it did not worry him as much as it should have. then again, his focus lately tended to drift elsewhere.
giving a fond look, he pressed his face against hyunki's neck for a moment to take in the closer proximity between them. more so than he ever experienced before with anyone lse. he liked it and it sent tingles racing along his skin. ]
No, I haven't. [ he agreed, blush staining his cheeks from the rest of what hyunki had to say. such softly kind words and he knew little of what to do with them but they settled deep within him. he knew that much at least.
lifting his head, he looked into hyunki's eyes, his fingers idly playing with his hair. ] Yes, I would like to hear about it. I would like to hear all about you.
[ A deep, pleased rumble made its way through Hyunki's body when Adder pressed his face to his neck, and he moved his head to the side to allow him more space, should he want it. Despite their undressed state, the embrace doesn't really feel sexual, and Hyunki just makes the most of it, breathing in Adder, and the life bursting at the seams all around them.
With water dripping from his fingertips, Hyunki reached out to card through the hair at the back of Adder's head when he moved back, and then he nodded. ]
I can tell you because the trees are not connected to those topside. I have struck a deal with those upstairs, and they are willing to keep my location secret for now, but I worry that if I speak too much of my family where they can hear, they will think I want to go home.
[ He takes a breath, frowning at himself. ]
I'm starting in the middle, sorry. I come from, technically, a royal family. We reign over one of the seven Forest Realms. But I'm the youngest of six children, and so, I have barely any claim to the throne. Not that I would want it. But my lack of importance in the lineage had made me... the forgotten child, in a way? My parents left me to the Trees more often than not, and left them to educate me instead of doing it themselves.
[ the embrace soothed him, his eyes rising and falling a few times in the kind of bliss. he greatly enjoyed the peacefulness of it and the ease with it as well. they touched each other like they always have and it made his chest ache. but in a good way, in the way he never wanted it to end.
hyunki touching his hair he really enjoyed too and he let out a soft sound, a pleased one. it had his eyes falling shut again as he listened intently to what he had to say about his past.

how could anyone push hyunki aside? it picked at the natural protect state within him and his eyes opened to gaze at him.
how similar they were to one another. ]
My family did the same thing - I was never focused on but I tended to like it that way. They're not - good people. I'm sorry, Hyunki. I'll - try to protect you as much as I can.
We can - experience the world together if you like. Things you missed out on...all of that.
[ Hyunki continued to card his fingers through Adder's hair, wanting to hear these sounds coming from him again. He held on, smiling at Adder's words, the sweetness and sincerity in them. He didn't doubt them, not for a moment. ]
My family aren't very good people, either. We are a mischievous species, and they often picked on me for being the smallest, the runt of the family. All the while planning on marrying me off to some far away Forest, for political ties.
[ This was the part that hurt the most. Being forgotten, he was fine with. He could learn more that way. But they'd wanted to take his choices away from him. ]
I ran away. I made a deal with the trees, and I ran away. Sometimes the trees tell me that my family is still looking. Sending people around to try and find me. I'm. A fugitive, in a few different ways.
[ the soft pleased noises continued and if adder had anything cat-like about him he would be purring. he had a few cat-like qualities in all honesty, especially because he preferred being warm.
listening intently still, a frown tugged more and more at his lips. ]
You're strong and brave to have gotten yourself out of that. What - would they do if they found you?
[ his heart sunk down into his stomach at just the thought of it. could hyunki mean that much to him already? it kind of shocked him and his eyes widened just a little at the realization. ]
You deserve happiness, Hyunki. If that doesn't make you happy - I will try to keep you safe, I promise.
[ Slowly, Hyunki moved one hand to Adder's face, fingers trying to smooth out the frown lines between his brows, the slant of his lips. ]
It's okay. If they found me, they'd take me back. And probably would marry me off as soon as they can, if they've managed to avoid a scandal. If they haven't, then they'll hide me away.
[ His fingers traveled over Adder's face, gently, wanting to remember ever inch of him. His voice was just a whisper when he spoke again. ]
[ the touches hitched the breath in his throat, a kind of tenderness about it but none of it stopped the sinking in his chest or how his stomach kind of dropped along with it.
it might have just started but he couldn't imagine not having hyunki to turn to. to grab onto.
since when had he started to depend on anything - anyone? ]
I don't - want that to happen to you. You don't deserve that.
[ then quietly, he added - ] I'd miss you.
[ he moved one of his hands to run along hyunki's face, down his side. ] You make me happier than I thought possible.
[ There was little that Hyunki had discovered in recent memory that felt more important to him than the house he'd ended up in, its people, and most importantly, Adder.
And he didn't want this to change. ]
I don't want that to happen, either. I want to stay in the house, with everyone. With you, in particular. I'd miss you too.
[ Instead of answering with words, Hyunki leaned in, pressing his lips to Adder's, soft, but with meaning. ]
I'll - try to make sure you have the choice, Hyunki. You deserve that.
[ okay, the words caused a thousand butterflies to erupt in his stomach and he looked downright in awe. emotions were running all through his eyes and he poured them out through the kiss and holding on a little tighter.
he needed hyunki and it didn't scare him as much as he thought it might. but it did make his heart race faster and his eyes glass over just a little. ]
[ Again, there was a lot Hyunki could have said, here. A lot he did want to say, about Adder wanting to protect him, about his willingness to keep Hyunki away from what he didn't want to face. It meant a lot to Hyunki, and he poured it into the kiss, his hands framing Adder's face, his mouth opening for him, his legs squeezing a little tighter around Adder's waist.
When he pulled away, he brushed his thumbs along Adder's cheekbones, just looking at him for a moment. ]
[ the kiss spoke of plenty and adder stored all of it inside of his heart, just in case. he would likely think of each moment as the last until he grew more confident and reassure hyunki would keep wanting him. that hyunki would keep reaching for him.
when the kiss ended, his eyes opened slower, lips slightly parted.
the question just so happened to be a loaded one even if hyunki would not know it. ]
I - it is unfair to think it. Too many rely and depend on me. I have too much to keep in balance and a responsbility. Even just wishing freedom from it for a single second is unfair of me.
[ Adder carried the world on his shoulders. Or, actually, the underworld. And it was a heavy burden, it was obvious. Hyunki wished he could help, could offer him some reprieve from the responsibilities, from the constant weight that made his frame droop forward a tiny bit.
But he knew that asking him to give it up, even for a moment, to be selfish, wouldn't be something that Adder would even consider. And it was another reason to respect him, really.
Still, Hyunki;s fingers went back to Adder's hair, his eyes following the movement as he spoke. ]
Am I taking you away from your responsibilities? I don't want you to feel guilt for spending time with me.
[ more soft noises from the fingers in his hair. something he enjoyed far more than he would have ever considered. then again, he could say the same for the entire bond with hyunki. he liked so many things he never dared to think about. to dream about.
his eyes shut for a moment, and he let out a small huff. ]
No. I don't really have as many responsibilities now with the - way the world is. Things are in a turmoil with the realms at war. I - things happened. It is still -

I can tell you because the trees are not connected to those topside. I have struck a deal with those upstairs, and they are willing to keep my location secret for now, but I worry that if I speak too much of my family where they can hear, they will think I want to go home.
[ He takes a breath, frowning at himself. ]
I'm starting in the middle, sorry. I come from, technically, a royal family. We reign over one of the seven Forest Realms. But I'm the youngest of six children, and so, I have barely any claim to the throne. Not that I would want it. But my lack of importance in the lineage had made me... the forgotten child, in a way? My parents left me to the Trees more often than not, and left them to educate me instead of doing it themselves.

[ This was the part that hurt the most. Being forgotten, he was fine with. He could learn more that way. But they'd wanted to take his choices away from him. ]
I ran away. I made a deal with the trees, and I ran away. Sometimes the trees tell me that my family is still looking. Sending people around to try and find me. I'm. A fugitive, in a few different ways.
